The Life and Times of the Greenburgh Kings at the AAU National Championship at Disney Wide World of Sports

The tournament was a great success and one of the team parents captured our entire journey during our time in Orlando. We won two games during the tournament and earned the first place seed in our pool! We would go on to compete in the Championship Bracket for our chance at the National title, however, we came up short losing the first game in the Championship Bracket. However, we were not out of the race, as we were then placed into the Consolation Bracket. We would go on to the lose the first game in that bracket, which would bring a close to our advancement into the later rounds of the tourament. Overall we went 2-3 against the best 14 and under AAU basketball teams in the country. Quite a success in our opinion as we did not win any games at the 13 and under National Tournament in Memphis last year. Our team showed some serious heart and drive during the tournament and we were pleased with our performance. We advised our players that they need to work hard on their game in the off-season and be prepared to come back strong next year, as we look to qualify in the 15 and under AAU National Tournament.

Greenburgh Kings - Back to the National Tournament

For the second year in a row, the Greenburgh Kings will participate in the AAU National Basketball Tournment hosted by Disney Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida. On May 18, 2008, the Greenburgh Kings qualified for the National Tournament by achieving a 5-0 record at the New York Metropolitan District Tournament. The Greenburgh Kings earned a spot in the Final Four of this highly touted tournament and now hold a 9-2 overall record in this competition.

The Kings were almost at the brink of defeat versus the Brooklyn Ballers. With only 10:29 left on the clock the Kings were down 17 points. The coaches brought the Kings together with a timeout and explained that this is our last chance to make it to Nationals and that these next minutes were precious and would need to be played near perfect to win the game. The Kings did just that and rallied in the second half to outscore the Brooklyn Ballers 34-10 and win the game by 7 points. This phenomenal victory secured their spot in the 14 and under AAU National Championship held in Orlando, Florida.

Congratulations Kings!
